About Project BRZ

Project BRZ began as a simple way to keep track of my car. Before long, I had accumulated hundreds of photos, detailed maintenance records, and notes on every modification, track day, and lesson learned. Eventually, I realized it was worth sharing the journey with others who enjoy building and driving these incredible cars.

For those who ask why I bought a BRZ in the first place… the answer is simple: I’m a lifelong Toyota and Subaru enthusiast, and an even bigger Initial D fan.

My first track day in 2019 completely changed the way I looked at driving. Since then, I’ve been hooked. Every opportunity I get, I’m thinking about heading back to the road course to improve both the car and, more importantly, myself as a driver.

This website documents that journey—from carefully selecting modifications that enhance the BRZ’s balance and reliability, to chasing faster lap times and becoming a more capable driver with every session. I hope you’ll find something here that’s useful, inspiring, or simply enjoyable to follow.

Special Thanks

While the BRZ was already an outstanding driver’s car when I drove it off the dealership lot in 2015, it has become something truly special thanks to the incredible people who have shared their knowledge, craftsmanship, and passion along the way.

Peter

Peter welcomed me into the YEG86 community just a couple of weeks after I bought the car. He generously shared his experience, offered countless pieces of advice, and helped guide my first modifications. As a fellow computer geek, we’ve become great friends, and I owe him a huge thank you for helping shape the direction of Project BRZ.

Invision Motorsports

Gerald runs an outstanding shop and has always been incredibly helpful. Together with Peter and another Herb (yes, there really is another Herb!), they completed my first round of modifications and set the foundation for everything that followed.

Chris – Legendary Technician

I’ve never met anyone more passionate about the BRZ platform than Chris. He’s the finest technician I’ve had the privilege of working with. I first met him at Subaru and later followed him to First Gear because of the quality of his work. His attention to detail, technical expertise, and genuine pride in every job consistently exceed my expectations. Simply put, nobody else will be working on this car.

First Gear

Leo and the entire First Gear team have been exceptional throughout this build. Most of the genuine JDM parts on the car have come through Leo, whose product knowledge, customer service, and understanding of my long-term vision for Project BRZ have been second to none. Their support has been instrumental in bringing this project to life.

Track Junkies

Harry has built something truly special with Track Junkies. I’m proud to call Castrol Raceway’s road course my home track and, from my very first track day through to today, Track Junkies has been there every step of the way.

The welcoming community, well-run events, and passion for grassroots motorsport have given me countless opportunities to learn, improve, and simply enjoy driving. Looking back, I genuinely owe my passion for performance driving and time attack to Harry and the entire Track Junkies community. Thank you for creating a place that keeps me coming back for “just one more lap.”

Kyle, Kae & Charlie

These three… wow, can they drive.

I consider Kyle, Kae, and Charlie to be mentors who have had an enormous impact on my development as a driver. In my early days, they taught me how to make every lap count - focusing on fundamentals like hitting apexes consistently, experimenting with different racing lines, and mastering techniques such as heel-and-toe downshifting.

Today, they’re still helping me chase those final tenths of a second, fine-tuning both my driving and the setup of the car to unlock every bit of performance possible.

Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and willingness to share your knowledge. Your guidance has made me a better driver, and your friendship has made every track day even more enjoyable.
